A little bit of ouch and some mostly good Rowdy news

in Family,Training Runs

As I am the only person in the world who does not like to poetically run in the rain, I headed to the buttcampless gym to do my 3 mile speed work-out this morning. A half mile into my run the outside of my left knee started to give me some pain . . . I slowed down a little, then tried again and the pain progressed to shoot from my knee into my ankle. It wasn’t an ‘I’m going to die’ pain, but it was certainly uncomfortable. I managed 1.75 miles – but not so speedy.

However, I have one of those foam rolley things coming in the mail today – I have high hopes that once I roll around on that for a while, I’ll be as good as new. I have a ten-mile run scheduled for Sunday . . . it looks like it may be a lonely run since Marathena and Richard are both under the injury spell . . . I have my fingers crossed that they will become magically better and are on my doorstep ready to run at 5 AM on Sunday morning! *blink, blink, blink*

My Rowdy little Romeo was thoroughly examined and turned inside-out today – physically the doctors found nothing wrong with his kidneys, but physiologically – based on the urine and blood tests, something isn’t working right. The good news is that the low protein diet he has been on this past week seems to be helping. He’s friskier and not quite as stinky; that makes us all very happy! He goes back for more prodding in one month – let’s hope for improved kidney function!

You’ll also be happy to know that my good friend Kate is going to knit Rowdy a Black Knight Scout sweater and my friend Sarah has volunteered to macramé him a matching jock strap! Aren’t they the best?

Sarah can’t macrame! I don’t know what she’s been telling you, but it’s really not gonna happen.

She could probably make him some pirate jewelry to go with his pirate sweater.

I’m so glad he’s doing better!

Not so stinky = good in my book! Glad the wee one is at least acting closer to normal…

Good luck on your run for Sunday! Hope all the pains are done and gone.

When my cat was sick last time (his urine duct was stuck with crystal or something), we change his dry food. It helped a lot. One of the cashier in the pet store was saying how this brand of cat food (Iams) is very bad for the cats. I guess a change of diet might be good for Rowdy.

Of course, a sweater wouldn’t hurt.

Hey, you run that early too?

5 elizabeth February 3, 2006 at 1:52 pm

did helmet just switch to jock strap??? Or am I literally turning your blog pg as I am reading it?

6 KAP February 3, 2006 at 2:10 pm

Well here’s to Rowdy! I’m glad the R-unit is back in effect, as it were. Maybe the kidney problem is caused by his affection for high-end wines?

I cannot understand people getting up early to run. I can’t. Ever. 12pm, sure, but not crack o’ dawn. Hell no. Crazy woman. Your as bad as Thomas!

ahhhhhh, sex toys in the mail — you are like my long lost twin… only female, funny, and better looking.

8 sarah February 3, 2006 at 2:53 pm

yep, what kate said. sarah doesn’t actually know HOW to macrame, she only knows how to look at macrame books at bookstores, and the only reason she did that was because they were right next to the mosaic books she was looking at.

i’m glad rowdy’s doing better.

That is good you got some decent news on Rowdy. Hopefully even better news when he goes back in next month!

10 iliketoast February 3, 2006 at 5:18 pm

Yeah for Rowdy, way to go little fella

11 Rob February 3, 2006 at 8:06 pm

I would run the 10 miler with you on Sunday if you did not live so far away.

12 david February 3, 2006 at 9:02 pm

I hope Rowdy Dog is on a plain dry dog food diet. That’ll clean out his pipe works and reduce stress on organs.
Whether that can work for your knee is another matter all together.

Maybe Sarah could mosaic him a little table where he could enjoy fine wines and even finer foods. I would run the miles with you Susan but I have to work on Sunday and after 1/2 mile I would be dead.

Great news on Rowdy! I have a feeling he’ll be a little extra pampered from here on out, if that’s even possible?!

15 TryAthlete February 4, 2006 at 12:22 am

Hooray for less stinky happy pee!

16 IHateToast February 4, 2006 at 1:24 am

a macramé jock strap… or how about a cod piece for when he’s not being athletic and just going medieval on the world.

you should come to australia. seems we’re only behind the taiwanese for vibrator purchases. we even get a sexpo in all the major cities. i’ll book your ticket now.

Hey Susan
Great news about Rowdy. That sounds really positive. Aquathlons really do exist – just swimming and running which is good fun. Take care tomorrow and stay aware of that knee. Hope it doesn’t play up for you and hope you have company cos I agree it’s much more fun running with company – home alone though, that’s a different matter altogether!

I hope Rowdy is ok.

Also hope your knee, ankle, whatever is ok now too – are you rolling around on your foam thingy?!

19 Wylee February 4, 2006 at 10:06 am

Good news about Rowdy, but bad news about your knee, is it possible your legs weren’t warmed up enough? Maybe somebody can knit you some leg warmers to match Rowdy’s new ensemble?

20 Sara February 4, 2006 at 11:56 am

Glad to hear the good news! Mugsy sends his best wishes to Rowdy. :) Hope the knee feels better!

21 Elle February 4, 2006 at 12:31 pm

Please….the poor dog has been through enough…spare him the macrame…have you no shame silly woman?

Sincerely,

That’s great news about Rowdy.
I can assure you, I don’t really like running in the rain either – poetic runs, my arse. It’s just that I haven’t got much choice with the climate here in Ireland.

The Black Knight is proud to have such brave Scout. Thanks to you, to the Scout, to Kate and Sara

Here is to hoping that your doggie makes a speedy recovery!

32 Jaykay February 7, 2006 at 9:47 pm

Hey Susan, just found your blog – lovin it already.

And I definitely hate running in the rain – ask anyone that I run with, they hear me whinge and complain about it all the time.

And whenever there’s a race on, they always blame me if it’s raining!!
