I am running the Half, but I am not running right now

by Runner Susan on February 17, 2006

in Training Runs

I should be outside running. It’s freezing cold and windy. Excuses. Excuses. I do have the leg/nerve thing going on – feel sorry for me. My leg is spontaneously thrashing wildly – It is quite disturbing.

I am running the Austin Half on Sunday – cold, wind or rain. I am. I am. I have not yet decided what gadgets other than Garmina are going with me. You’ll have to wait for the official race report . . . which will also include an official shopping report from the San Marcos outlet mall – Coach, Nieman, Nike, Armani, and Marc Jacobs . . . that will count as my Saturday workout!

Will you run today? Tread mill today?
For a church going woman like you, the outlet mall in San Marcos sounds like a pilgrimage to the cathedral in distant lands.

Susan, You’re crazy! Hot chocolate, fire and book. That’s my recommendation for this weekend.

Where’s the San Marcos outlet mall? Driving distance from Dallas?

Be careful!

Good Luck. It’s freesing here also. Brrrrr Spring is not far away.

4 Flatman February 17, 2006 at 7:56 am

Don’t hurt yourself….on Saturday! :)

5 Amy February 17, 2006 at 8:04 am

I’m pretty sure there’s something in those outlet malls you need to buy me for San Diego.

6 bolder February 17, 2006 at 8:49 am

i knew there was somethin’ like malls involved… i just knew!

I would go see the Dr today if you can. Have it checked out. Of course they told me not to run the time I had concussions, or the time with 6 broken ribs, but then I am a guy and don’t always listen well to doctors.

Losing control of the leg could be a sympton of something else. It is important to find the cause so you can appropriately treat it or you take the chance of further injury.

Woo Hoo, we’s a goin shoppin!! And I got paid today!

It sounds like you have damaged a nerve and I agree with everyone that you need to go to a doctor to have it checked out. Carry your cell this race (if you have a place for it) and that way you can call us if you get hurt on the course.

Sorry it hasn’t exactly been a good build up for the race. Try to enjoy it though!

10 Rob February 17, 2006 at 10:11 am

I am glad to hear you have thrown caution to the wind. Can’t wait for the report.

11 Jack February 17, 2006 at 11:47 am

Good luck with the race, don’t be afraid to back off the pace a little if you’re not feeling 100%. On the other side I have run some of my best races while sneezing and wheezing. Just listen to your body and watch out for the wind.

12 Josh February 17, 2006 at 12:32 pm

Wind…cold…both perfect reasons I used last night not to run. Don’t beat yourself up. And good luck this weekend!

13 fe-lady February 17, 2006 at 12:39 pm

You are certainly to hurt yourself further…especially shopping the day before!
Take it easy….and I wouldn’t race, but then I am not a spring chicken like you are! I’m just an old bird…. and chicken!

14 partyrunner February 17, 2006 at 1:16 pm

oh, love to shop. love to run. love to shop. have fun!

15 ihateToast February 17, 2006 at 1:19 pm

it’s 5:13 am here. i’m up, in my shorts and crocs and ready to hit the garage sales on this warm suthun hem’sphere sub tropical day. and while you’re running, i promise to think about you as i lounge about on the hammock on the balcony, letting my thighs ooooze through the weave.

Good luck, kangasoosan. while i’m okay with you entering the race, don’t let me hear about you continuing to run if your body tells you to stop. i really can’t afford the ticket to return to dallas and give you a what-for.

Keeping my fingers, arms, toes, and legs crossed for you. Okay, not my legs, but a girl’s gotta have *some* fun. I’m sure you understand.

Speaking of legs, I really hope yours starts behaving soon. I don’t know if it can take all that….shopping!

17 Bella February 17, 2006 at 2:34 pm

That nerve thing sounds kinda serious, hope it disappears soon so you can get on with your wild Saturday workout!! I did mine yesterday, it was like pigging out on your favorite dessert!

18 celeste February 17, 2006 at 4:35 pm

Oooh! Have a great time shopping! Way to keep workouts fun!
And, g’luck with the Austin Half on Sunday! :D

A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. Enjoy the shopping and take it easy on the course.

There’s no reason to run and get hurt. That’s not why you went there.

So, here’s my solution to the nervy, swervy, leg-o-pain: flaming hot bath, room temperature $10 bottle of some Italian chianti (the one with the knight on the fornt…Gabiano?), and some reallllly trashy romance novel (Daniel Steel is too high class for this presription darlin’)….Yup.

21 Scott February 17, 2006 at 6:45 pm

I would so hate you if you were my Mom and you put my pic on the web with bedhead and headgear… yikes… Kenza must be one together young woman!

Q: How are lazy and injured related? Just asking.

22 iliketoast February 17, 2006 at 8:04 pm

I’m stuck on the image of the wildly thrashing leg … hope it stops soon.

23 wobbly man February 17, 2006 at 9:09 pm

Good luck with your half S! Outlet shopping afterwards? I think I would rather visit the dentist!

24 alcarter February 17, 2006 at 9:13 pm

Good luck with the half and its attendant retail therapy!

25 strewth February 18, 2006 at 4:47 am

Very best of luck tomorrow. Hope the weather improves. It’s so hot here – seems weird. Hope your leg behaves itself in the Half and also hope you had an absolute ball with your retail therapy today. Take care, enjoy yourself and I’ll look forward to reading all about your race and your purchases.

27 Elle February 18, 2006 at 7:14 am

You are a better woman than I…
Not only did you NOT back out of your race…but you like to shop. I’m defective…

28 Thomas February 18, 2006 at 7:30 am

Good Luck at the mall, and don’t overdo it at the Half. Or is that the other way round? ;-)

29 buckeyerunner February 18, 2006 at 8:30 am

Woo Hoo! Good luck on Sunday! You’re hard core!!
I’ll pray to the weather gods for you, that there is good weather!

30 ewen February 18, 2006 at 6:50 pm

I am waiting patiently for the official race report Susan… bugger the shopping report.

Kenza’a a real beauty.

33 ihateToast February 19, 2006 at 2:33 am

man… i just spent an … let’s not name the amount of time. i just spent a lot of time scanning our sunday’s paper, mucking up rowdy’s red wine and cheese photo and adding kenza’s teeth with spacers photo to rowdy and changing the headlines about a hit-and run being about a runner causing massive chaos and claiming disappearing legs. that the race officials were testing her for red wine and knollie shrooms… and then it all went pear shaped! i’m so pithed off! i hope your legs didn’t funk out on you. and i’m sorry i couldn’t harass you via a doctored up photo attachment. BUGGER!

34 Rae February 19, 2006 at 8:46 am
