Today was my final VO2 class – to measure my improvement over the past six weeks I repeated the four mile test maintaining my anaerobic threshold of 173. Here are the splits – results compared to the first class:
- Today / Feb 28th
- m1 – 8:52 / m1 – 11:05
- m2 – 18:15 / m2 – 22:01
- m3 – 28:05 / m3 – 33:06
- m4 – 38:08 / m4 – 44:24
A 6:16 minute overall or 2:04 minute per mile improvement (I think – again, bad at math). Today was hard, but not as hard as it was 6 weeks ago. Average pace for the four miles today was 9:32 which is super cool for Susan. I’m really happy with the 8:52 mile 1.
To qualify for Boston I need to multiply that workout by 6.55 and shave another minute off each mile. But I’m not in a hurry even if it takes another ten years – that’s okay with me - I want to enjoy obtaining this goal.
even if it takes another ten years – that’s okay with me - I want to enjoy obtaining this goal.
Yep – that’s what I’ve learned from the last year. Goals are important, but not if the achievement isn’t enjoyable…
WOW. That’s some amazing improvement in just 6 weeks!
Awesome improvement! You are so right about achieving your goal. In my opinion, it’s 90% about the journey and only 10% of actually doing it!
Wow that is some pretty impressive improvement Susan! You’ll get to Boston!
Wow, fabulous improvement. You’ll do Boston sooner than you think with your spirit. I love reading your postings. Thanks for sharing yourself so openly and authentically.
Impressive! If it takes another 10 years and if you maintain the same pace won’t that make it easier to quailfy? The times go up with age, right?
It won’t take you 10 years, you know.
Wow!!!!!!!! Nice improvement!
Wow, Susan that is amazing. I am totally going to check that place out.
Weren’t you saying earlier that this VO2 max training is silly? Sounds like it’s helping, or well, something is helping.
Boston, Shmoston, run for happiness!
That is an incredible improvement in six weeks. Good work!
Awesome!!! That’s some HUGE improvement…way to go!!
that is incredible improvemtn for just 6 weeks. maybe you got your answer you were looking for on increasing your speed. maybe VO2 is the way to go afterall. great job Susan!
U trim 2 min..that’s great..
Keep your mind open…b/c u never know if u will qualify within 10 years 🙂
You are such an inspiration, woman!
Congrats!
Nice!!!! Speedy lady!!!
does this mean you have two masks by your bedside?
i’m very happy for you. mostly i’m happy that you’re proud of yourself. i definitely see a leotard/tights outfit with gogo boots and a cape in your future. yerra thooper thtar!
Hey, I was kidding about changing your header again! You need a rose tattoo now…
Wow – that’s great improvement! Now if only the rest of us can get the same results, except without the training part.
Impressive results. So you have a goal to qualify for Boston. Just keep that thought in your mind everyday and you will reach that goal.
10 more years?! No way, how about 10 more months at that rate of improvement? speaking from years of experience Boston is a worthy goal but so is getting out there and enjoying every run [twitch]
Way to go, Susan! That’s a lot!
That’s pretty amazing results. Good job! I want to take the O2 training that my gym offers, but the cost keeps holding me back. If I could get results like you did, though, it’d be worth it.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
Damn, girl… improvement like that is just super sexy!
Very, impressive, numbers!!!! WOW!!!you’re cookin’ now…
I’m constantly amazed by people who train hard…and then get results!! There must be a connection…if only I could find it…
well done!
OMG, that is TOO COOL!!!! What a huge improvement! So maybe this VO2 thang is better than the LSD thang… so far LSD has gotten me nowhere good.
I’m guess the 173 is your anaerobic threshold and now I’m getting all geeky starting to analyse the numbers …. the best thing of course if how you feel about it and talking Boston is certainly a great sign ….. have fun and feel good.
Yeah for Susan!!!!!!
Wow i knew that training would work for you but wow!
I actually think its one form of training that the majority misses.
You nailed it so if you like im sure that you can get to Boston in far less than 10 years!
Ps i am thinking of buying a home in San Antonio any thoughts?
Good run, Susan.
I like your philosophy on Boston.
Watch out Boston, Susan is on her way!
Wow-y, Wow! That’s great! What an improvement! Your hard work paid off. You may be reaping benefits in the weeks to come, too!
Have a great weekend, and love the new header, BTW!
Wow Susan this is a fantstic improvement….Boston is definitely on the cards!!
Great job Susan! Your really an amazing runner and it is a pleasure to track your progress and seeing you become a most excellent runner!
Wow that’s some major improvement. Congrats! If you keep up improving like this you’ll be off to Boston in no time.
damn. I think you should take another picture of yourself licking something random to celebrate!
Way to go!! That is awesome!!!
Go, Sue, VO2! Two minutes faster, whoop-tee-doo! I’m much slower, boo-hoo-hoo! Boston in ten, maybe two. You’re da bomb! Sue, Go, Sue!
That kind of improvement in less then 2 months??
SOLID!! 🙂
I’m astounded, that’s one massive improvement. You obviously worked very hard during those classes. Well done indeed!
I am so with you on enjoying the journey. Doesn’t matter how long it takes as long as we are having fun!
Great improvement. Boston is ready to be conquered!
Shockingly good improvement. Can you do it again?
wow, that is so awesomely amazing!
Congrats on the big improvement Susan. Slow and steady improvement along with that attitude will get you that BQ, I’m sure of it =)
Nice work.
How do you get your anaerobic threshold? Maybe you said it before but I just started reading your blog. It’s very good. You Rock!
Keith.
If it takes another 10 years, you won’t have to run as fast because the qualifying times should get more favorable too!
Congrats on the improvement. Shaving minutes off your pace in just a few weeks is awesome!!
Your maths are good Susan. That’s a cool improvement.
