I’ve been a big crybaby lately. Poor me. Poor Susan. It’s so unfair – she’s so fat, so slow, she’s so never ever going to qualify for Boston. I’m thinking my attitude and my perception could use a little adjusting. While on vacation I did very little (no) running but a lot of thinking how to define what would be acceptable in Runner Susan World. The only thing that popped into my head is qualifying for Boston. So, I must. And in order to qualify for Boston a lot of things about my training and lifestyle need to change. So, I’ll start with one lifestyle obsession and move on until I’ve covered all 632 obsessions.
Obsession number one: Food. As with many women, my relationship with food is completely unhealthy. Over the years I’ve noticed that I’m either starving my body or overeating. Unfortunately, also over the years, I convinced myself that this is an acceptable way to control my weight. It’s not good for me and it certainly does not set a good example for my daughter. I must reprogram my 36-year-old brain to make nutrition a priority. Not dieting. Not weight control. Not running. My hope is that once my body is nutritionally sound, the weight will adjust and the running will improve.
But first things first – tomorrow I joyously venture to the gynecologist to have a pelvic ultrasound, or as my sister calls it – a dildo cam, to find out what I need to do to get these uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts taken out of my body and life forever. Then I can move on to obsession number two: shopping.
