So the plan goes something like this:
Monday: Yoga
Tuesday: Fartlek or Tempo
Wednesday: Yoga and/or bike
Thursday: 55 minute easy
Friday: Lift
Saturday: rest
Sunday: Long run, which ranges between 8 – 14 miles.
I was really hoping for more run days, but apparently you have to work up to those. And, since I’ve been doing, ummm, practically nothing for a week or so – this is what I get. I think she threw in the yoga days just to torture me. I’ll stick to it and hopefully when the plan is updated I’ll get more run days.
So the plan calls for fartleks on Tuesdays. Tuesday is usually bleacher day. But since bleacher day is nowhere on my plan, I stuck to the fartleks. A one-mile warm up, 20 minutes of 2/1 fartleks and a one-mile cool down – nearly four miles in all. Fartlets are not my favorite workout, but it is on the plan. It felt good to have tired legs after the workout.
Also, after dropping off Kenza at school I took Donkey for a 1.25 mile walk and then Rowdy for a .25 mile walk (he has little legs). I’m not including it as part of my workout – just making good use of my public space to let everyone know that those are extra miles.
Rowdy not happy about being covered in Donkey slobber!
Ahhh. Now the term, “Donkey Miles” becomes clear!
but the bleachers sound so fun…
i wanna hug those adorable cuties
Cutest dogs ever!
Yes… I can relate to workouts with “torture elements” in them… And hey, I’m all for recording mileage of any kind (do partial miles logged in the mall count?)
considering she does marathons in Antartica, you would expect upcoming torture.
fartleks and yoga, i fear are ONLY the beginning…
Good run Susan! Yeah – I walk my larger dogs and then walk the Pomeranian separately (at a much slower pace) for 1/4 mile or under depending on how he feels…he has shorter legs than Rowdy!
I was lost on the “donkey miles” before this entry too. Interesting plan. Thanks for sharing.
Hmmm…bleachers or fartleks? They are both capable of making my legs tired! Cute doggies!
Donkey looks pooped! And fartlets are what you get out of puppies, right?
Keep up the good work – you are an inspiration.
Rowdy’s look says it all.
What is lift?
Miles are miles girl!! Count em!
I also understand more what you mean on donkey miles. Keep the fartleks. Different running will make you stronger and faster.
I thought Donkey did the fartleks and you did the slobbering….
The bleachers were complaining that you didn’t stop enough to make them feel important.
Beware Antarctic trainers. They have no idea how hot it is in Dallas.
Awwwww…so cute!!
Great schedule. But where’s the biking and the swimming? Com’on and get your tri on, Susan!
Stay tuned…
OMG I love both dogs expressions in this photo. Rowdy is too much fun!
Rowdy is looking very sheepish in that photo Susan.
Yes, what is Lift? Go hard in the Fartleks (Fartlets?). Looks like a good program.
i think rowdy has pink paw envy.
you might like fartleks. i did. i liked that i didn’t know how far i was going to run (v. jog) until a few seconds before i bolted. i thought i was like kid running. spazzy running.
we want yoga photos, too.
So, do you have to eat beans before you do a fartlek?
I’ll be waiting to see the dogs in their yoga out fits and poses. They do have the advantage by coming into the world capable of licking their butts though.
I guess I was not the only one scratching my head when you would write about Donkey miles. I just figured it was a Runner Susan thing.
Last night I did a long run and then treated myself to pizza. Then had a horrible case of fartlek’s. My wife hates them. Kicked me out of bed. So now I don’t like fartleks either. The couch sucked!!!
I like fartleks better than doing 400’s, 800’s, etc., because you can start and stop whenever the heck you want.
I was hoping for more days too but they cut me off at 7.
Cheers.
Rice.
I love the dogs!!! Great job on the workout and “Donkey Miles” now has a new meaning.
