My obsessions are getting the best of me. And unlike my shopping and martini obsessions, this was not the good kind. I do not walk away from this obsession with Jimmy Choos or a horny husband. I was unable to sleep last night because I couldn’t remember when I last raced. My brain said June, at the San Diego Marathon, but that didn’t seem right. Sadly, it’s true.
As much as I love posting about birdy porn and donkey butt, I need to get some races in. I need them to gauge my progress and keep me on schedule, but mostly I need to run because that is what I do. I am Runner Susan. (Well, when I’m not being squinty-eyed pirate drunken Susan or Kenza’s mother, or any of my other handles)
I have a lot of work ahead of me. I’m still very slow, even following the plan. But I will do what I need to get to the level I used to be at. While running only 3 days a week right now is nice, my goal is to move up to 5 days of running. My legs feel strong during my runs, the weather is getting cooler, and I have a smart donkey to run by my side. I’m ready for this.
Sept 23 – Tour De Fleur 10k
October 15 – Waterworks 25k
Nov 11 – The Dallas Half Marathon
Dec 10 – White Rock Half Marathon (or Vegas, hmm)
Jan 14 – Houston Half Marathon
Feb 18 – Austin Half or Full Marathon
After the Tour de Fleur, I’ll assign time goals for each race. But for right now, I’m going to enjoy the early fall weather and this feeling of getting stronger, and the fact that there’s another season of Project Runway to keep me going.

UPDATE: Check out the latest and greatest on the Complete Running Network.
Yes, we both need to move on from the misery — er, I mean memory — of last June. I like the sound of your chosen races. Though Tour De Fleur sounds too much like those damn rosettes Angela always put on her Runway pieces.
Nice plan. I am glad your ass is running with you…
oh my.
that is SERIOUS banner action.
serious.
i bow down to your hawt chick banner’ness.
“squinty-eyed pirate drunken Susa” – You gotta love them pirates 😀
I’ve just refreshed my cache… Love the header 😀
do vegas!
race a lot – this is good
Las Vegas is nice but White Rock is the very best
Great race schedule! I had planned to do White Rock, but I have finals and a big school project…damn school!!! I am doing the Houston 1/2 though, so maybe I’ll see ya there…although it sounds like I may be waaayyy behind you.
Good schedule Susan. Working up to 5 running days per week would be ideal for you. I would be afraid of losing fitness with the 3 running days per week schedule…but I’m a freak like that.
FUNNY article. I may have to try that bra out…
Have a great weekend.
Which races are your A races?
My training buddy does ironman and he once told me that the key is to build up running 6 days a week. The key is consistency.
do not feel guilty not running in the oven.
it’s cooler now, time for runnin’ luvin’.
i’m sure you’ll ace the tour de fleur,
as you’ve got martinis as your lure.
some say rhyming is bad and corny,
it’ll lead you away from a hubby who is horny.
but i feel here it has a reason.
CELEBRATING SUSAN’S NEW RUNNING SEASON.
thank you thank you… i’m here all week. try the lamb.
Wow, that banner stuff is really hotting up.
So, you’re racing once every month now? That’s certainly doable, and should keep you motivated all along. Good Luck with that. I definitely think you should do the full marathon in Austin.
ok first off damn. thats a schedule!
and second off.. yeah. i’m pretty much doing the white rock half.
man, i’m such an easy sell. hope to see you there! and…
whats your current schedule look like? im still deciding on mine…
It’s been a long time since I’ve posted a comment on your blog….boo school for making me so busy!
Just wanted to say that you’re wicked good with those headers. Good luck with the race schedule too. It seems like something you can definitely do as long as you maintain a positive attitude about it.
I LOVE the new banner. Very nice plan for the races!
Here’s something I came across:
The most famous holy runner arguably is Sr. Marion Irvine, the “flying nun” from California. Mistaking the word “elite” to mean “refined and well-mannered,” she followed Arthur Lydiard’s training methods for elite runners. Her error paid off with significant weight loss and numerous age group records. In 1983, at age 54, she ran the California International Marathon in 2:51:01 and qualified for the 1984 Olympic marathon trials.
In becoming the oldest American to qualify for the Olympic Trials in the marathon, Irvine received the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Runner of the Year Award. The other recipient in 1984 was Joan Benoit Samuelson, the Olympic gold medalist in the marathon.
Ten years and many outstanding performances later, Irvine was elected to the RRCA Hall of Fame. Her American age group record of 40:37 for the 10K, which she ran at age 61, still stands.
Good racing schedule Susan. I’m looking foward to the time goals.
Will we see any smiling photos from the Tour De Fleur on the Complete Running Network?
banner good. goals good. you can do it. later.
YAY for the Houston half!!!
Great banner! That’s a real line-up there, Susan. I’ll be watching you:)
Love the new header! We are planning a trip to Houston in January, still not sure of the timing, considering the Houston marathon, but I am guessing we will come earlier, like New Years. Why does Dallas have to be so far from Houston? This may make me reconsider coming for the marathon since you will be there!
SOunds like a nice schedule of events! A little more intense than mine! Good luck!
designeeerrz…
i’m *so* glad vincent is out
i’m thinking of the vegas half myself…
vegas, baby!
so many races ….. it looks like an exciting 6 months
i checked out “the complete running network” and found a very titillating article
