I’ve been a little down lately. Not the-world-is-ending down, just down. 2006 has brought many challenges this way, good ones, but still taxing. My lazy side wants to lie down and pull the covers over my head; the rational side won’t let that happen. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing. Perhaps some interests outside of running and my computer would help, or maybe a vacation. But this is a running blog, so lets get to the running.
I’ve been thinking about my marathon training. And I really don’t want to run a marathon just to run a marathon. Honestly, that sounds like another five hours of misery to me. If I’m going do this, I’m going to do it right. No more slack days, off days or blah days. I need to make every day of training count, even if it only get me ten minutes closer to my BM goal. We’ll start here and see how it goes.
good resolve will get you good results. get to work and it will pay off.
happy running!
It’s work, I am learning that, but hard work pays off. Good luck.
Runner Susan,
Run because it brings you joy, and nice legs and that sort of stuff. It’ll probably help when you’re feeling down too.
Go tackle that BQ goal (or did BM mean something else?) jk.

Run your marathon to have fun! If you intensify your training, but you are not enjoying it, you are setting yourself up. Have fun! Have fun! Try some new things, different ideas.
Sounds like you’ve made up your mind…now go for it! But, don’t forget to have fun with it too. Martini’s might help with that part!
Run like there is a 50% sale at White House Black Market and all the women in the race are trying to get there too!
Hey Susan,
I’ve been dealing with the blahs lately, too. I took some time off and now the exercise and training actually help make the blahs subside. I also agree that sometimes it’s hard to put aside training and computer time in order to do the “something” else that might lift the spirits.
Go Soooooze.
Awesome! You’ll do great!
It sounds like you are focused. I was hoping that this post wouldn’t end with “so I’ve decided not to run another marathon.” You go Susan! Are you planning on doing Austin?
My reading professor today was talking about the importance of using every second of class time for valuable instruction because we are in a battle to teach kids how to read. For many kids there is no time to waste in class and if we drop the ball then they will fall further and further behind the others who are able to read very early.
Now, where the hey am I going with this? My point is that it sounds like you need focused running when you are running. I do not mean that all your time should be spent running, but when you are running have a goal for each run. Your goal might even be to have a recovery run, but if you are focused on that goal then I think it will help your motivation. I say this because my running has improved lately because I have a purpose for each run rather than simply running, which can be good as well, but I’ll end it there. Whatever you do we are all behind you, in a motivational sort of way.
Go Susan!
Rob gave good advice. (I should listen, too) Hope the resolve works for you.
susan b good! *wink*
can i just copy/paste this into my blog?
for real?
cuz.. i’m with ya sister. i’m with ya.
I know you’ll stay focused and exceed your own expectations. You go Susan!
My lazy side and rational side are always battling each other. I’ve decided that I hate them both. Is it possible to have a third-party intervene?

How ’bout running in costume? Would that add some excitement to your marathon? We’re not talking chicken outfits or banana outfits here … I’m sure you can come up with something more “juicy” 🙂
Isn’t running sometimes just a metaphor for life? Life, in it’s various forms, including family, partner, work, etc. All these things can get a little flat at times or even drift into a routine. I was once told to start each day with 3 things you want to achieve that day. 3 things. Only 3 things. I found that 3 things was a realistic number and something I could achieve. So what is important to me, I ask myself in order to pick 3 things. 1 Might result in leaving a block of a special chocolate on Katy’s pillow and 2 Could be to trim my nose hairs and 3 Find a cure for cancer ….. no 3 would not be that because I might struggle to achieve it …. but 3 Could be a running goal. Today I’m going to practice my breathing … for example. Or my goal is run 3K in 14 minutes during part of my run …. anyway I hope this helps.
Cheer up Susan.
You’re right. Have a purpose for every training day and try to achieve that purpose.
You have the mental toughness to get through the training. That much is evident in your most recent post. As you know, the mental aspect is sometimes the most important in training and the race itself.
Keep us posted!
Susan,
I am with you Susan whatever you choose to do. I think you are AWESOME!
Chin up!
Stay tuned…
Hang in there. Running is therapy. It helps me get through some hard times and get rid of the excess adreniline. Life is like a marathon. We have to keep running to make it to the finish line.
..that’s a good attitude…
just make sure u add a little fun in there…and i don’t mean fun with your hubby and your wine 🙂
