This morning was my first run since the half marathon last Sunday. Cindy, Donkey and I went out early this morning and did 40 minutes of impromptu interval training. We sprinted from lamppost to lamppost going easy in-between sprints. It was slightly foggy and the cool humidity actually felt pretty good towards the end of the workout. (I can’t believe it’s going to be 80F here today.) Donkey was better behaved than usual, except for the part where he chewed his leash into two pieces. I frequently remind myself he is going thru his teenage years; selective hearing and eating like a goat. Later today is a weight workout at the gym – AKA The Incredible Shrinking Body Plan #72.
Speaking of shrinking bodies, yesterday I was reading an article about Beyonce, and her 20 lbs weight loss, in In-Style magazine. I personally think Beyonce looked great with hips. But, she also looks great thinner. Damn Skinny Bitch. Beyonce said she lost the weight doing a “Rocky-Style” workout followed by a 2-week Master Cleanse to detox her body. Has anyone ever heard of or tried this Master Cleanse?
i have a master cleanse every morning around 9am. speaking of that, i gotta go. later.
i have a friend or two that’s done it, but i don’t think they dropped that much weight….
from what i understand it is when you only drink this lemonade type drink and you can’t ingest anything else except that and water. you supposed to do if for a week. i tried it once and only made it a day…i just love food too much 🙂
First of all, as I understand it she gained the 20 pounds back after the movie was done shooting because she was perfectly happy with the body she had. I hope she hasn’t changed her story and turned into one of the co-opted skinny people.
I also had read that she did the same thing Tom Hanks did when he shot that movie about being stranded on a deserted island and that it involved a lot of water and chili peppers.
I’m suddenly starving for a big bowl of granola with raisins with a brownie chaser. Later!
ps – that Master Cleanse thing sounds like just another load of hooey. Anyone who can stand starvation for a few weeks can drop 20 pounds but that doesn’t mean it is good for you or that the 20 pounds won’t soon find you again and bring 5 – 10 of their closest friends with them.
I have tried a cleansing type of diet…ONCE. I actually got sick doing it. It is not easy on your body for sure. It was the SUCK!
I’ve done a detox before, it is probably similar to a master cleanse, although master cleanse sounds more serious.
You had to do all sorts of things, body brush you skin before you showered, then finish your shower with cold water. No meat or dairy or mushrooms or anything white … basically you ate brown rice and veggies. You had to have a liver tonic and a kidney tonic everyday … like grapes or melon. I lasted 6 days then bought a bottle of wine and a bag of chips
The New York Times just did a big story on this.

I use Master Cleanse to clean my bathroom floor. Oh wait, that’s Mr. Clean.
(saltywar does not endorse Mr. Clean as a diet plan)
Interval Day! Yea!
Master Cleanse. What? Are you desperate?
Research metabolic diets if you want strategic weight loss plans.

I’m not sure where that other post went, Susan. Did you get the NYTimes link I sent on this cleanse stuff?
Hi Susan,
Thanks for commenting on my blog. I want to stress a couple of things about the Master Cleanse. I’ve personally done it twice so far — both time for about 10 days. As you saw on my recent blog post, I finished my second cleanse this past week on Monday.
Now, the Master Cleanse is exactly that: a cleanse. It is definitely not a weight-loss regimen. It is purely and simply a detoxification regimen. You drink between 6 and 12 glasses of the lemonade drink per day (and as much water as you want). If you lean towards 12 glasses, you actually wind up gaining the weight that you need to gain, towards the end of the cleanse. If you lean closer to 6 glasses, you do lose a bit of weight.
The second thing is that most of the weight lost on the Master Cleanse is, in fact, water weight. You gain half of it back when you get off the fast and start eating normally.
To answer the first question you left me: in fact, I started my running programme on day 7 or 8 of my first Master Cleanse 9 or so weeks ago. I felt great and had a bunch of energy. You do get to realising that your food cravings are purely mental, not physiological, because your body is getting is due nourishment from the lemonades.
I would just like to close with this: if you do the Master Cleanse, please do it for the right reasons. Weight loss is the wrong reason, in my opinion.
I hope that helps, please feel free to ask me any other questions you might have.
Thanks!
Seemant
If I master cleansed for that long, the first thing I’d get after 10 days is an extra large pizza with all the works.
Hi Rich,
You’d think so, but it’s actually not quite the case. You generally tend to shy away from the heavier foods for quite a while after the cleanse. You go through the cravings pretty intensely while you’re on the cleanse, but it’s funny that afterward, you don’t even really want the foods you were craving a few days before.
I’m vegetarian anyway, but after the cleanse I tend to want more raw foods than cooked foods.
I just read an entire article about master cleanse, which has apparently been around for 60 years or so. now, the question is: WHERE did I read it? and can I find and send you the URL?
sigh. you know the answer.
dianne and i have done the master cleanse a number of times, the longest being 21 days on the lemonaide then 2 days drinking orange juice to break the fast. we did not have to cook for, or be around, others who were not doing the cleanse. it did great things for me. i was not hungry although i did miss food a lot. it didn’t do great things for dianne though, it was hard on her body. as previously commented, it is a cleanse and not a weight loss thing. if you use it for that you will be disappointed.
Hmmm. I wouldn’t last one day on Master Cleanse. I suggest lowering fat and calorie intake instead, and loading up on all the good veggies we runners are supposed to eat. Yes, Beyonce looks great in that photo.
But I’d rather have Jennifer Hudson’s pipes.
I’m going to check this thing out. Not exactly for weight loss reasons, but to break the cycle of the horrible foods I’ve been eating. I am bloated, cranky and not fitting into my clothes. I need to do something. When are you starting? We should do it together so we can compare notes.
How well do you know your local butcher?
Nice intervals Susan 🙂
