It’s late at night, so the lighting is bad. Which is good, because I look like crap. I started day one yesterday, not today, sorry for the confusion.

I just wanted to thank you for posting your Master Cleanse experience and being honest about it. I am utterly intrigued, and how ever this pans out for you, I appreciate hearing an honest voice about this program. I have thought about doing a Master Cleanse for years, but something always stops me. My one main concern is that when I get too hungry, I become lightheaded and probably wouldn’t be the best driver — and with three kids under age ten, I practically live in my car and would never want to put them at risk. I am also prone to headaches and I swear I just got one myself out of sympathy for you! I hope today goes better for you, and I look forward to your next update.
Susan, you know I love you and would give you my last peanut M’n’M. So believe me when I say that your body is more than capable of getting rid of toxins provided you eat healthy, unprocessed foods. You really don’t need to make yourself sick to make yourself better- there’s something inherently crap about that approach.
susan,i would say you threw up the chicken soup because you took ibuprofen on and empty stomach. that stuff is strong! sounds like a mad idea to me (too honest?) scrap it and just try to eat healthy – i know, easier said than done…
wow, your header totally rocks. I admire the 10 days without food thing…I just think I would turn into a grumpy bitch maggot. You seem in good cheer though, which is awesome. Happy 2007!
There are TONS of cleansing plans out there. My friends who have done it usually do so under the supervision of a naturopathic doctor and there’s a special tea they have to drink. I’ve never heard of the drink you’re having.
If you’re going cold turkey off caffeine, that’s definitely where the headache is coming from. I’ve done that several times in my life and it’s not worth it. Start by gradually reducing caffeine — I usually start with a half-caff/half-decaff coffee in the morning and then none after that. Reduce to 1/4 caff by the end of the week and then go to nothing. It’s MUCH easier. Then I’d start cleansing. Battling caffeine withdrawal is a challenge in itself without cleansing at the same time.
Good luck. I hope it’s worth it. Me, I’m going back to my Weight Watchers diet. I’ve another 20 lbs to go. I’m NOT giving up caffeine.

Keep going Susan even though I am a bit freaked out now 😮
I am going to do my cleanse on January 15th with a few friends…. ORDERS been Placed..this looks similiar to what we are doing…
this was recommended by my Running Coach Lisa Smith Batchen … yes she says it will be some pain but she has many clients that have done this program through NEERA…here are some details below and link.
The Neera Super Cleanse Package
( 5-7 Day Version )
$49.95
It Includes:
One 1-litre can of Madal Bal Natural Tree Syrup (typically lasts between 5-7 days).
The new Neera Super Cleanse Handbook with detailed instructions. 48 pages.
14 tea bags of Neera-Lax brand mild herbal laxative tea.
One container of Madal Bal brand premium organic cayenne pepper.
The Neera Super Cleanse package does not include lemons or lemon juice. An important part of the Neera Super Cleanse is the use of fresh-squeezed lemons so we ask that you buy and squeeze your own lemons. This will ensure the highest levels of freshness and potency of life energy.
I think I’ve made my position on this thing clear but just in case you missed here you go again.
No movie deal – no Master Cleanse.
How can a diet that gives you NO protein for 10 days be good? And have you thought about what all that internal muscle munching (because your body will demand protein) will do to your running?
I say pick your goals. Either you are Runner Susan or you are Eating Disorder Susan. You can’t be both.
Pardon me for the lack of support but I favor health over hype.
I hope you feel better today no matter what you decide to do (and please do NOT discount day 1 of this madness – it happened). I agree that caffeine withdrawal and ibuprofen on an empty stomach are probably what caused the headache and vomiting. Probably.
If you’re doing this to lose “toxins” you’re wasting time. You’re better off going to the country for 10 days and eating whatever the hell you want.
If it’s for losing weight, it’s also not the smartest of plans. Even if you did lose weight this way, there’s no way it would stay off. Once you went back to normal food, you’d bounce back to your equilibrium.
I think you should just eat healthy. That’s my plan. Skip dessert. Don’t eat between meals.
That’s my plan. You may have to be a little more realistic in your goals too. 30 pounds in 4 months is a lot. Especially if you want to maintain it.
You know, some Purdue students went on a hunger strike recently to protest slave labor involved in the making of Purdue apparel. They didn’t eat and only drank water and juice. They were really strong in their convictions and it was day 11 when the first ambulance was called.

dude. if beyonce can do it.. you can do it. i refuse to believe she’s tougher than you are.
and, that being said… today totally counts.
i think we should all do it for a day in your honor. post the rules and all of blogland can join in your misery!
Let’s remember that this diet was conocted by the same generation that had white people wearing afros and the country embracing polyester leisure suits — and white shoes. That the publisher never updated the version (and caught that typo) really has me wondering….
I went through an involuntary cleanse to prep for a colonoscopy a year ago. Same symptoms, due to caffeine withdrawal and dehydration. Try to drink more water (or is that not allowed?) and see if it helps. Can’t for the next installation.
Typo fixes from last post: concoct…and can’t wait.
(I think the author and I must be related.)

Susan, I did Neera for 6 days. I also did fruit detox twice for 3-4 days each. It gets better by day 3, though headaches were present first 2 days. It also gets boring by day 5 like hell. But it’s survivable. It helps to work away from home and fridge:) Stick with it, if you do it – I’ll start another one next week. Let me know!
Scrap it! That diet has been around since the ’40s (NOT the ’70s) and has been pretty well debunked.
See New York Times.
There are other fasts that make sense. This isn’t one of them.
Feel better soon!

Too restrictive– try this cleansing diet (it’s the one I decided to do for the next 7 days–minus the bentonite and flaxseed. Lord, I poop enough as it is… hah!). Here’s the link:
I’m not listening, I’m not listening… Honestly we have two computers and one set of speakers and I happen to use the one without speakers. I promise I’ll disconnect the speakers upstairs and listen to this eventually. I know, you care.
Well you certainly have a lot of input from your fans, Susan. I really don’t know what to tell you except that ten days is an awfully long time and there are other less intense cleanses. Good luck with your choice. I would consider 1/2/07 day two of your cleanse if you continue.
Hmmm, I vote no, but I understand where you are coming from. I do occasional cleanse days, but it’s once in a while….never more than a day. This sounds tough on the body. Take care…
I know it is extremely cruel to laugh at the pain someone is going thru, but I must confess that I couldn’t help giggling as I watched the video. Kudos to you for keeping your sense of humour through a hellish 10 days!
Should you continue? Well, let’s just say that I would have gone for a juicy cheezeburger instead of chicken soup. If there ain’t protien, it can’t be good for ya. 😀
I would probably just scratch it. I don’t know. I can’t seem to do anything with bad headaches. Maybe give it another day and if the same happens, ditch it!

I like the idea that somebody suggested about working with a holistic nutritionist.
One of my sisters owns a health supplement store (soon to be an acredited holistic nutritionist herself)and she sells a number of different cleanse products that aren’t nearly so severe. I am doing one myself at the moment called First Cleanse by Renew Life (though I don’t know whether it is available in Texas).
Susan … you don’t need to torture yourself to get healthy and the head ache sounds more like caffeine withdrawls than anything else. I finally went cold turkey on caffeine two years ago, suffered through the head-aches for a few days and never looked back. The rest of the little book seems just nutty.
Eat healthy … be healthy.

Susan, You rock. I tried yesterday, I really did. But by noon without my diet coke, I caved and had one. The diet coke led to soup for dinner. Mine stayed down, but I did feel nausious. Today I didn’t even try.
Definitely a venti mocha and start over in the morning …

Ok, WHY exactly are you doing this? It will not help you lose weight, and it’s only going to hurt your overall fitness and running. How exactly is this going to help you achieve your goals? Are you really willing to jeopardize your health over a “master cleanse” fad? Unfortunately, there are no short cuts to anywhere worth going… All your blog readers want you to be healthy and happy and fit and successful!!!
I tried to read the previous comments but the size of the window is too small and not sizeable, oh well, so if I repeat what someone else has told you please forgive me. Here is my take on “Master Shit”, oops I mean Cleanse, hehe! Take the book and almost all of the lemons to the nearest landfill and ask the operators to bury them as deep in the ground as they can! Your body can do its own cleansing without too much outside help and the best part is it does it when it needs to not when some snake oil salesman says it should! Oh, keep the syrup, thats always good! Pizza, Pizza!! Run Good!
i say keep going for a couple of days, just to see….and yep i was right its the same one that Beoyance did. and if that beoyatch can do it YOU CAN!!!

Yikes. I have no advice. Just…take care. 🙂
Susan,
How do cultures that fast do it? Does the book you are following do it similarly?
Just curious. 🙂

Today is definitely day two. Stick it out for a few days and see if things improve.
i think you should only continue, if you videotape you drinking the nasty stuff!
then, we can all sympathize!!

Gives new meaning to “the funky chicken”, now doesn’t it?
Hmmm. . . let me go and sip on a cup of coffee while I ponder this . . .

Whatever you do, just don’t make tomorrow day 1!
Umm, whatever happened to Kashi?
I’m with 21st CM – sorry mate. It sounds and is crazy! I hope it doesn’t put your running back too much.
This is so drastic I would not do it for that many days. Today is day one, keep it that way if you must go on

Just back from the in-laws yesterday, btw.
I wish I could access the Susan porn but for some reason I can’t, which is a shame. Would you mind emailing me the direct youtube links?
Ten days is a long time to cleanse. I would have gone for my personal favorite – colon cleansing.
hm. i sort of want you to continue with MC just so i can benefit from you crapping cayenne laced turds.
and if it quotes the national enquirer, it must be credible!

but again, this was too funny, so suffer for my entertainment!
That was different. Now you will have the You Tube crowd following you also.
