Just when you think it can’t get any worse, Coach Devil adds hanging abs to the workout. Ouch. Abdominal strength is something I don’t possess. Yet anyway.
I have freakishly strong thighs, and the abs of a jellyfish. You know what that means? Constant lower back pain. In fact, I have dull lower back pain so often, that when it disappears I don’t think I’m not running enough.* Probably not the best thought process, but that’s going to change very soon – cause I’m going to have abs of steel – and live on the beach – and make my own video – and become famous – and wait, am I thinking these things out loud?
And since we are in the house of pain, the past week or so I’ve had a really annoying pain in the bottom/back of my heel – right where my index finger is. And I think it should really just stop – because it’s not excruciating, it’s just annoying.
Any ideas what might be causing this heel pain? Did I mention it was annoying?
*Can I have a grammar lesson, please?
Oh, Susan. You will abs o’ steel from doing those crunches. Give it a month and you’ll see what I mean. The Captain’s Chair works better than those (I think), but those will do. The work will be worth it. You’ll see.
Sorry about the heel pain. Not so very good. How are your shoes?
Oh yeah, the heel pain. That spot is where your achilles tendon meets your heel. It may actually be an achilles injury. Tight calves can aggrivate it. Be very careful when stretching the calves.
could be achilles, could be plantar fasciitis.
If i did those lifts, I think I would pull the ceiling down (and not bcs I’m saying i’m strong, if you get my drift).
onward!
Valentine socks on the girl with the steel abs? That kind of pain means you need a massage, then a drink.
My guess is it is the beginning of plantar fasciitis. Is it worse in the morning and does it go away after you’ve been running for a few minutes/little while?
nice jammies too.
I’m impressed that you could do even one of those. I also have abs of jelly and must fix that – ASAP!
Look at the first pic on this page:

Plantar fasciitis sounds like the right diagnoses. They talk about how to help it, too.
the hearts on the socks face the wrong way. this creates a strain on the heel.
i think you seem to have great abs. i think you have a lap that could serve as a hanging chair. like the ones they had at pier 1 in the 70s.
Sorry, I ain’t gonna be teachin no grammer lessons. I like the facial expressions. Nice!
No thoughts on the heel pain, but I think for photographic purposes, you should use your middle finger. Much more to the point when discussing pain, right? 😉
Man, that looks painful! You will be chiseled steel after a bit of that!!
Impressive hanging leg raises. But you’ve got to exhale going up or you’ll pop (plus it’s a whole more comfortable).
As for your heal pain, from the position of your finger, I’d guess plantar fasciitis; however, you didn’t mention if the soreness goes away as you warm up. You can google yourself silly on this problem since it seems that nearly all of us either have an active case or have suffered through some form of it in the past.
Good luck.
* The double negative is confusing, but perhaps:
‘In fact, if my constant lower back pain disappears, I think I’m not doing enough running.’
Maybe PF for the heel pain… if so, avoid hills and sprinting until it’s gone.
Good job with ‘Runninmomma’ Susan, although, in Firefox, the flickr.com photos are not center aligned.
Probably planter fascitis (sp?) I would get it check out. Nice job on the workout.

Heel Pain could be a result of your stronger leg muscles pulling from the calf and that is where it hurts you.
I am lucky because, until now, I don’t have idea on what might be causing the heel pain. Watching at the picture I think you will have very soon strong abdominals.
The heel pain, I’ve had a few different versions of it.
Once when I switche to a new balance shoe, the heel counters were different than I was used to so was putting more pressure with each foot fall. BOTH heels hurt, exactly in that spot and it was an odd pain. It went away 1-2 weeks later slowly.
Are you shoes new, changed? New inerts? New type of socks with seams? Is there a stone stuck in the bottom of your shoe?
Otherwise, it’s probably the beginning of plantar fasciitis. Be careful.
I’m with David on the jammies. Can’t help with the heel, but I hope it’s gone by the time you read this! The pain, not the heel:)
from one jellyfish to another ….i bet my devil knows your devil…evil bitches!
Heed the others’ warnings and be vewwy vewwy wawwy of Plantar Fasciitis. I’m on my 4th coritizone shot already. Such a looong recovery period. Best wishes on your diagnosis.
Susan — that’s either achilles or pf. Either way, some ischemic and/or ART massage from a PT would do you good.
I’d guess you’re doing calf-raises and other leg-strengtheng-y goodness with your weight workouts? I’ll bet you’re increasing a muscle/flexibility imbalance that’s manifesting in the heel pain.
Getting your gait analyzed would help.
Do NOT run through the discomfort. That way, madness (and a long recovery process) lies.
Sincerely,
Had that injury LAST February. Finally could start training again in April.
You may wish to check out if it is a spur. If it feels hot and isolated in one spot then I would think of that. Doubt if it is PF but could lead to that if you change your stride.
Time to see the sports doc.
