Off to the Big Apple for Marathon #5.

in New York Marathon 2007

Tomorrow I leave for New York City. I’m excited. I’m not sure if I’m more excited about the marathon on Sunday or just being in New York. Who am I kidding; it’s the shopping! And the food.

I am having some packing frustration though. I’m not sure what to wear. Here’s the weather prediction:

picture-48.jpg

Now the race starts at 10 A.M. on Sunday and the temps that day are high 54 low 43 degrees. Do I wear shorts or tights? Two long-sleeved shirts or a long-sleeved and a tank under? You’d think I’d never run a marathon before. I have stuff strung all over the place, which is so unlike me.

And what do I take for a jacket the rest of the time? Coat, sweater or jacket? I’m leaning toward the coat – it’s satin and I love satin and I’d get to feel myself all day long.

And yes, those are shiny red boots you see. I’m taking them and I’m wearing them. They go great with satin, how could I not? I might sleep in them too. I’d have done it already but Michael has banned boots from the bed.

I am not sharing a bed with you and your boots!! Just your boots maybe, as long as they sleep curled up at the end of the bed!

The boots are hot, but my feet hurt just thinking about wearing them around on a marathon weekend :-)

Good Luck with the marathon. Don’t wear yourself out doing the shopping before the race, and enjoy the boot in bed.

Wear shorts when you run – you will warm up. Wear a long sleeve over a short sleeve (and get a race belt if you don’t have one) and hand off the long sleeve to Michael when you get hot.

As for the rest – you are so much more the fashion plate than I.

Good Luck! I hope you have the race of your life.

Good luck, Susan!

I am running in shorts. We’ll be plenty warm by the time we get a few miles into Brooklyn.
I am also sticking with a short sleeve shirt. I found a very snazzy new sweatshirt to wear pre-race that I don’t mind tossing.
I will not be packing any boots though. They’re all yours, Miss Feel My Satiny Self.

I have no idea. I don’t even know how hot – or cold – that is !

Have a fantastic time eating, drinking, shopping, oh and running in New York !

I’d go with the shorts and long-sleeve shirt over tank; you’ll be so happy. My husband would MAKE me wear the boots to bed. Best of luck!

i think i’ll go with shorts and a short sleeve tee. i’ll have a sweatshirt for the pre-race time.

as for the weather, i noticed tonight that saturday now has showers in the forecast! how do they know it won’t be on sunday? so annoying to look at extended forecasts….

have a good trip. i’ll look for you in staten island.

That’s pretty cool – 6 to 12C. It’ll feel cooler if it’s windy. Gloves you can throw away later maybe. Take it all and work it out on the day! Run ’til you stop then shop ’til you drop. Good luck Susan!

21 Ted November 2, 2007 at 11:23 am

*gasp* Are you going to run in that boots for the NYC marathon? *smile*
I am from New Jersey which is not too far from NYC. The weather going to be nasty tomorrow (Sat) as a compliment from Tropical Storm Noelle. Sunday should be AWESOME. It does get chilly in the morning. I have been wearing short and short sleeve t-shirt. I get really warmed up during my run. Since you are from Texas, your mind will think its friggin COLD.
GOOD LUCK SUSAN !!!

the boots with those red shorts or skirt would totally be a rocking marathon outfit. seriously. later.

25 Kim November 2, 2007 at 5:32 pm

Maybe Michael would let you wear the boots to bed if you had the right accessories.

26 aprilanne November 2, 2007 at 5:53 pm

Good Luck Susan! I know you’ll do great.

27 Debbie November 2, 2007 at 9:00 pm

Good luck, Susan! I’m not sure if you will see this before the race, but I’ll look for you around mile 14 (I’ll be manning the water stop). As for wardrobe for the weekend – you’ll probably want shorts for the race. And don’t forget a garbage bag for Sunday morning as you sit at Fort Wadsworth, forever!
I’ll also be at the expo all day Saturday – in the registration area.
