Wrapping paper or gift bag?
Paper. The harder to unwrap the better the gift – that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Real tree or artificial?
I like my trees cosmetically enhanced, so artificial for me. Besides, the dogs do not need me to bring the outdoors in, if you know what I mean. And the needles! I can’t handle the needle mess.
When do you put up your tree?
Thanksgiving weekend or whenever we can find some spare time before Christmas.
When do you take down your tree?
THE DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS. Always.
Do you like eggnog?
Hello, can you say bourbon? Yes eggnog. Go eggnog. Me likey eggnog. Alton Brown, who I have a secret TV crush on, has the best eggnog recipe.
Favorite gift received as a child?
One year we were waiting for my Dad to get home on Christmas Eve, we were really young still, five and four I think, and when Daddy came through the door and we noticed a lump under his jacket. He told us this wonderful story of Santa coming out of the sky, parking his sleigh next to the car and asking if he knew of any good kids who would like the best gift he had to offer that year. When Daddy unzipped his jacket a puppy popped his head out. We named him Chipper.
I think I told this story last year too, but this year I have a picture.
Hardest person to buy for?
My husband. He is the best gift giver in the world but it is always so hard to find the perfect thing for him.
Easiest person to buy for?
The girl who makes me a list and puts top ten stickers next to the items she wants most: Kenza Roo.
Worst Christmas gift you’ve ever received?
Um, Hmm. If it’s a present, I like it.
Mail or email Christmas cards?
On the years I actually get them done, Mail.
Favorite Christmas movie?
A Christmas Story. Who doesn’t love Ralphie?
When do you start shopping for Christmas?
After Thanksgiving and before the crowds are everywhere. I’m a big online shopper for people other than myself.
Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
Ha, don’t you wish you knew.
Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
White or colored lights?
Colored, and the more and gaudier the better.
Favorite Christmas song?
Any song Kenza sings.
Traveling for Christmas or stay home?
Home, Home, Home.
Can you name all of Santa’s reindeers?
Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet and Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and do you recall, the most famous reindeer of all? Rudolph.
Angel or Star on top of tree?
Snowflake, but I must find the Hindu figure Run, Lucy, Run has on her tree. It’s too cute.
Open presents Christmas Eve or Morning?
Morning. But I think we need to get into the practice of opening gifts every single day in December.
Most annoying thing about this time of year?
Kenza let me know this year that she doesn’t believe in Santa anymore; I miss being able to use that old line “You better be good, Santa’s watching!” I guess that isn’t really annoying, but it sure was handy.
What I love most about Christmas?
I really want to say, opening gifts. Because I’m shallow, I know it. But watching the surprise on Kenza’s face on Christmas morning is so priceless.
