Feel the Love

This morning I ran five miles at 5AM at a 9:47 pace – go me! These plyometric leg torture workouts I’ve been doing for two hours a week are paying off. (Thanks Cindy!) I forgot how much I love running early in the morning and how much I love having it over with to move on with my day. You know what else I love? Ibuprofen. I took three, for my foot, before my run this morning and, for the record, masking the pain is SO MUCH BETTER than running in pain. Where has my brain been?

(Putting on my Homer Simpson Voice) Mmmmmm, ibuprofen!

I have to say though that I can easily get sucked into taking too much of it. I read somewhere that a study showed that it may actually inhibit healing, but it sure is my magic little pill (or two, or three!).

5am + 5 miles + sub 10min splits = awesome! Great job!

Great run Susan! Glad the IB helped- it’s an essential training tool. Ice your foot a lot too though. :)

5AM and you’re amazing. I had to wake up at 5:15 to get to DFW, and it was not easy!

you are a constant source of amazement and inspiration.

psst … can I have a few of your ibuprofins?

Be careful with the ibuprofen. A little goes a long way, and you were with me when my Motrin caused my kidneys to go haywire on a certain marathon course. Not a good feeling, believe me.

Go you, though, for getting out there so early and getting it done so quickly!

Found your blog on Itchy Bits. Be careful with the IB. Msking the pain is not always smart! Happy Running!

There’s a little sidebar in the latest issue of Running Times you might be interested in: “Is it a stress fracture?” It asks questions such as:

Does it get better or worse as you run?
Can you hop on it?
Is there a particular point along the foot that hurts acutely when you touch it?

Just be careful of masking symptoms with drugs. Drugs are for forgeting about your problems, remember, not for masking them.

I think if you’re cutting a 20 miler short because of pain, you should go get an x-ray. Better to know what’s going on now so you can back off and heal than to run a major race like a marathon and potentially screw yourself up for weeks or months.

There’s always alcohol if it gets worse:)

So that would be 5 miles more than Amy? Go you!

Don’t do drugs too long – if pain persists, see your doctor ;)

5 miles at 5 am. i think when you run before 8:am it counts as double!

next time try running with my friend jack daniels. he’s a little harsher than IB, but boy who cares?

I am so for ibuprophen. Great header, I really need to get in touch with you for a new one.
