I’ve been back to running for a little over two weeks now. The first week was awful, my body wanted to reject being active again, but this week I’ve felt like things are falling into place. I’m running three days a week – actually running, very slow, but still it’s not wogging, doing leg torture twice a week (video to come) and riding my bike three days a week.

I have to admit, the biking is the hardest – it’s 100% cardio – and in case you didn’t know – if you stop moving, you fall over. Does it get easier? Because I really hope it gets easier. If anything, it should be good cross training for Chicago. Or maybe I’m just wasting my time. And spending too much time talking out loud.

Oh, and I must not forget the best upper body workout IN THE WORLD – hand waxing all of my hardwood floors. I think I saw a tiny bicep grow while I was waxing. So if anyone out there wants really buff arms, you can wax my floors. And I’ll even let you do it for free. Because I’m so nice like that.

it gets easier! are you riding on flat courses? yeah, you kinda have to keep pedaling if you’re on flat. find some nice downhills. of course you’ll have to go uphill first. still. you’ll be thrilled at the downhills. no cardio involved. well your heartrate goes thru the roof from fear. (I’m not exactly selling you on biking here, am i?) i lurrrrve the bike.

people wax floors??? Is that like ironing?? strange foreign words. do not comprehend.

You have running muscles – that’s why biking is sucky at the moment (plus Michael needs to buy you a new bike).

We’re looking forward to the torture video – are you going to dress up?

Biking is going to be such a great form of cross-training for you! You will be glad that you have been cycling! And yes, it should get easier!

Are you noticing that cycling makes you a stronger runner yet?? I definitely noticed that in the last two years…My knees don’t take a pounding as much and a climb is a climb. Your heart doesn’t care whether you’re running or cycling–it just knows it’s working!

i see you more as a BMX bandit type doing whirlies, curlies, twirlies… oh, that’s not what they’re called?

Before I started cycling I ran about a 10:50 pace on average. I now have a 10:29 on the year but if you look at the last 4 months It’s closer to a 10:10.

Keep cycling – the running will get faster just ’cause.

Hey Susan!

Well done on persevering, that’s the key to it all. The effort and energy you spend now will come back to give you more strength and stamina and self belief! Cycling is very complimentary to running from a stamina perspective so hang on in there. As for the bicep and upper body strength, surely you’re doing the Push-up challenge too right??? ;-P
