And here’s my feeble attempt at swimming again. The water hates me. It’s trying to kill me. As you can see I’ve made absolutely no improvement. I think I need to give up the water for a while.
Tune in for tomorrow’s extreme leg torture #9 workout.
Swim Practice #4 from Runner Susan on Vimeo.
Where are the flip turns? Just try one so we can see it on video… 😉
Also, we need a video from the side…
yeah right Flatman, I’ll get right on that as soon as I get my underwater camera. Which will be as soon as I loose 30 lbs.
Susan your boob comment made me laugh out loud (as I’m reading it via my iPhone at a traffic light). You actually aren’t the first to make that observation, but it’s still hilarious. (maybe I was wearing my VS extra padded one on after day)
Don’t give up! It just takes a bit to get there, but you’ll do it.
I was hoping to be the first one to make the flip turn comment. You gotta get up pretty early around here.
You’re still swimming 1000 times better than I can, which … isn’t saying much, sadly. 🙂
If it makes you feel any better, when I started swimming (again) a year ago, I had a hard time even putting my face in the water. Here’s a clip that might help you… if you are interested. There is a lot of great videos on YouTube… just take it one step at a time.. you’re lookin’ good!

I love the bicep shot on your flicker photos. I have to do upper body today and you are an inspiration. 😉
You’re right, it is trying to kill you! I would stay the hell away from that water until a priest comes and blesses that water…..
flip it for real girl!!
i love your backyard.
later.
Make sure you are bringing both elbows out of the water after the stroke and you’ll cruise along a lot smoother.
Also, I tried doing those side lunge bosu ball jump things you were doing in one of your last videos on Tuesday. PAIN!
I thought my legs were in pretty good shape, but clearly they are only used to moving in one direction. Forward. Two days later and my hips/ass are still wicked sore. I clearly need to be doing more of those.
Know what helped me yesterday in the tri when I attempted a little freestyle action?
When you come up for air, turn your body in an almost exaggerated fashion…feels as if you’re almost sideways. Allows me to really take a good, deep breath, which allows me to continue onward. Worked like a charm for me.
I want your pool and your backyard. Can I come swim there sometime?
I had to watch twice because I was distracted by the landscaping.
One thought…have you tried to practice your swim stroke out of the water (like stand on the pool deck and move your arms?) I remember doing that when I took swim lessons as a kid. I don’t know if it helped or not, but its worth a try. Swimming in a backyard pool might also be a hindrance because once you get going you have to stop…just a thought.
I know what you mean – My fun-sized one rocks at swimming. She has been swimming with the local team since she was four and kicks my self taught butt every time (even doing kick turns to rub salt into the wounds).
