We used today’s workout to do some ladders to just get the feel of how things were going to go. And let me start off by saying, I hate the track. I have a hard time believing that during my high school years I was a sprinter and I could run a 400m dash in around a minute.
Twice as old, twice as slow.
½ mile warm up – 6:00
100 – :21
100 – :20
200 – :41
200 – :42
400 – 1:57
400 – 1:51
800 – 4:11
800 – 4:19
Cool down – ¼ mile – walking
How many of these 800m dashes do I have to do before I get faster? Because they are nasty and I’m thinking 2 is plenty. I’m good with the 100m and 200m. Why can’t I only do those?
We tried to video this, but it was just too dark, so pretend it’s an audio clip. Here is the first 400 and parts of the second 800. Cindy’s commentary just cracks me up. Her sweet voice just makes me so happy.

You….you…geeze!
You make me feel LAZY!
Freaking Blair Witch Project!!!111
“internet people”… I LOVE IT! Cindy is the best narrator ever. 🙂
You’re doing fine, honestly. Keep at it until the marathon at least, no matter how much you hate it.
I’m internet people…I feel dirty!
Oooo I used to run the 400m and the 1600m relay. I do not remember my time but the 1600 meter relay sucked because it was always the last event and the anxiety would just build and I would be ready to puke by the time it went off. What is good to do is track plus bleachers! That I love and will do myself soon to cross-train. Run the 200m corner and take the bleachers up and down the full 100m length (use the steps in between sections not the actual bleacher seat), exit, run the other corner and then the bleachers on the other side in one continuous loop. You need access to a good size field to get the bigger bleachers. Brutal.
Great commentary, brave running. Well done Susan.
I like the shorter ones too, they can keep anything over 200.
I must say, your workouts are working. You look fab-u-lous!!! Great definition in those biceps.
Thanks for the hair compliment, it actually looked like crap in that pic because I was sweating profusely. But the bike was gorgeous, that’s all that really matters.
Hotter than Hell was hot! You Texas people and your August heat… uuggghhh! 🙂
I think we need to see what Cindy looks like. I’m having a hard time reconciling that sweet voice with the torture theme of these videos.
Nice work on those track repeats! I think the 800s would be pure torture! 🙂
You are Stealth! I could picture you in your stealthness, for sure.
I’ve got to say, I’m super impressed with your 200s! They show your latent speed. I have to kill myself to get under 40.
I’m thinking maybe you went a little hard on the 100s and 200s, carrying some lactic acid into the 400s. You did 3k in total of ‘torture’. Between 3k and 5k per session of fast stuff is enough.
Maybe try 500s? I liked them because you run a straight, then one lap of the track. Easier mentally than 800s. They’re also half of one kilometre. Don’t go too hard though. You were running 8:33 mile pace on the 800s, so 6 x 500m @ 2:30 (walking slowly back to the start for a recovery) would be a good session.
Was that a flying saucer between 1:18 and 1:30?
Us internet people want to know if you and Cindy were running the track in Area 51.
I think you run like the wind just like Cindy! She is too sweet!
you put me to SHAME! cindy is hilarious. You are running like the wind! I want a cindy! (Who is cindy, exactly, anyway?)
you’re doing great!
