That’s more like it

Yeah. 23 miles was on my plan for the day. I ran 5 and quit. Would you like me to bullet my excuses? No? Well I’m gonna do it anyway.

  • Our power went out last night and I got up late
  • When I did make it out the door it was almost 7AM
  • And at 7AM it was already 83 degrees with 80% humidity
  • I thought I was going to die before I even got to the end of the street
  • I was so sweaty and sticky by 1/2 mile into it
  • My calves and the arches of my feet started cramping
  • Seriously, who has arch cramps? That’s just stupid
  • Stupid with a big, stupid capital S
  • S for stupid, stupid, stupid
  • I had a really bad attitude because I’m so freaking tired of this hot and stupid weather
  • And stupid humidity
  • I started walking about 3 miles into the run because I was so stupid hot
  • I averaged a 14 mph stupid speed
  • I took Friday AND Saturday off as rest days to prepare for the 23 miles
  • But I’ve been so very tired
  • Because of the stupid weather
  • I got a 108.66 miles in this month, just 10 shy of my all time Septemberathon high of last year
  • If I had ran all 23 stupid miles, this month would be my all time high mileage month
  • But it’s not, stupidly

Okay now. I think I’ll try a do-over tomorrow morning with a better attitude. Although it will still be stupid hot outside.

It’s okay.

It was just a stupid day.

What better day than Labor Day to labor and toil out on the open road?

You’ll get your 23 miles, Susan. I know it.

Do overs are stupidly good! Let’s watch the track torture video 1 and laugh so we can get our ab work-out in today!

That all sounds about right to me – especially the arch cramps. I get them all the time in the pool.

Just do it tomorrow, no biggie. I get arch pain too, I have high arches and they give me fits sometimes.

It didn’t say 23 in my training book. Did you misread it? It must have said “just a stupid 5 today.”

12 david August 31, 2008 at 11:10 pm

You did set a record for posts in a month – 33. You can be happy about that.

Yes, 7am is probably too late in that dodgy weather. Smart Susan, not stupid.

I hope it was better today. Run at 14mph again and get it done before it gets too hot ;)

Oh, Susan! You were never much of a mathematician. Don’t you know 5 Texan Summer Miles are the equivalent of 23 elsewhere?

Wait, hang on, you ran/walked 5 miles at 14mph. That means you covered (drum roll)… 5 miles in under 20 minutes..? No wonder you got arch cramps. On the TSM chart, arch cramps are worth another 20 miles of effort.

Seriously though, that Texan heat and humidity sound yucky. I’m glad we’ve had an atypical British summer – wet and rainy. Nice and cool.

I’ll post you your air ticket.

I skipped my long run this weekend too. Don’t feel completely guilty about it. There’s always next weekend.

I get arch cramps sometimes. I keep one Foot Rubz at home and one at work and use them pretty frequently. Not perfect, but it helps a lot. http://tinyurl.com/63dpno

that’s faster than i bike!

All of your excuses work for me. Come to California, stay with me, and run 20 miles with my TNT group. It might not be cooler but you won’t have to deal with that humidity thing.
