I can’t decide if today should be a total recovery day or if I should do something really light, like a short bike ride, easy 3 mile run or maybe just some yoga. What do you guys do the day after a long run? Because right now a shot of tequila seems like the right thing to do.

Any of the above are acceptable.
Typically, I do very little. After I long run, I like to take the next day totally off. If I do anything, I do something extremely low key, like walking or recreational swimming. I’m a beer man, so I find that beer helps. But if tequila works for you, then who am I to judge?
Alcohol. Definitely the alcohol. I find it takes a good 24-48 hours to recover, i.e., “milk the mileage” of a long run.
A nap. I didn’t plan it, but yesterday the bed invited me over for a snuggle and I didn’t get up for a couple of hours. Although, that might be why I stayed up until past 2 am.
Nice easy bike ride…. 🙂
I always take the day off unless I’m doing back-to-backs. I did 20 yesterday and didn’t run today. I’ll run again tomorrow.
I would take the day off. Maybe a little yoga to keep limber.
Mostly I just gimp around and complain. But that’s just me.
easy bike ride with no falling over. later.
Nothing at all. It’s a rest day, time to rest and recover. Perhaps just a little light stretching. Did I mention Advil and hydration?
Believe it or not, a recovery run will make you feel a lot better.
I am the wrong person to ask because I would say relax and strech, being that I am suffering from overtraining and elevated RHR I am tell you chill and strech, no doubt.
I usually take the entire day off from formal excercise, maybe some easy walking or ab moves if I’m up to it. Possibly time to turn the hot tub on?
Pretty much the only question today should be
Cuervo
or
Patron.
I only ran 12 yesterday and I’m doing nothing today. Monday is always my day off, though.
Recovery run about 1 and a half days later. So if you ran Sunday evening leave it until Tuesday morning. If you ran Sunday morning leave it until Monday evening.
Don’t forget you will need to replace salt …. and perhaps a little lemon.
Listen to what your body tells you.
If you feel like an easy run…then run.
If your body is calling for tequila, then opt for a light biceps workout hoisting the glass. Lots of repeats 😉
HAHA! LOL to Lisa’s Comment. I would go with the Petron!
It’s too late to influence your decision since it’s night time but you can’t lose with the advice above. I agree that a light jog can be a good thing to flush the junk out. Allowing your muscles to recover is important too so sleeping or slouching is good. You can’t let yourself get run down and sick. Tequila has its value too since it can kill any germs, goes great with that salt replenishment you need and will put you to sleep.
I went to work and had a gin and tonic when I came home. Now I am blogging for cross training.
Totally recovery. Take that shot, and find some young stud to rub you from head to toe!
Not that my response will affect your decision at this point, but I like a day off after a long run. Beer is good too!
Well done on the 20 miler. You’re ready!
I very rarely do long runs these days, but from memory, a short easy run was always good.
First of all, let me say that my “long” run is only 12 miles. But I definitely take the next day off. I had a great run on Sunday, and all day yesterday, felt like someone had beaten me about the neck and shoulders with a shovel. I popped 2 Motrin before bed and took it veeeery easy on today’s run. I definitely needed a full rest day yesterday, though!
Why do I always blog in your comments? Sorry!
poop.
and i rest. then see above.
