January-a-thon Smack Down!

I’m not sure if you remember last year’s January-a-thon between Sister Runner Amy and I or not – but it lasted about only 4 minutes. This year we’ve come up with new rules that provide provisions for things like sick kids, snow days, and hangovers – little add-ons to actually make this year’s smack down go down.

Minimum requirements:

  • Must record exercise on Google calendar every day
  • Minimum 30 minutes of exercise every day
  • 7 miles of running or walking every week
  • 3 different activities each week – Running, Walking, Cycling, Yoga, Swimming, Lifting Weights, etc.

At the end of the month, hours exercised times miles run = point value

Points deductions:

  • Tardy workout reporting: 10 points
  • Skipping a day: 25 points
  • Not getting your miles in: 10 points
  • Not getting three different workouts: 10

The sister with the most points at the end of the month wins. The losing sister buys the winning sister a fitness related gift valued at $50.00 at the end of the month.

Now, if we keep up and finish a Year-a-thon, the winning sister can force the loser to sister to enter a race of her choice.

This is the best version of sibling rivalry I’ve seen in a long time. Fight the good fight!

So many details, I’m thinking 2 bottles of wine were required for this.

Okay, last year’s lasted 18 days. That’s longer than four minutes.

Also, I think it’s important for your readers to note that you have a HUGE advantage because:

1) you live in Texas where the regular winter temperature is above 20
2) you have a home gym
3) your kid does not require constant supervision and goes to school for many hours every day

So I am the underdog here. Go Underdog!

Looks like a great plan – we just started our annual biggest loser competition. Ours obviously isn’t working too well because we have the same participants plus some add-ons every year. I think your plan rocks!! Go! – both of you!!

Love the challenge. I want to play.

I think to even things up a bit, you should deduct 10 points for every glass of wine.

Can’t wait to see how it goes! Potential of new workout stuff every month should be good motivation.
