I’ve had my chef, my friend Zoë and the bike shop guru fit me on the bike. All three were unanimous with what needed to be done. Of course, I let the bike shop make the final decision – seemed like good idea when chainsaws are to be involved.
- The seat was too high – we lowered it a few millimeters and it feels perfect now.
- The stem is too short – a new one is on the way.
- The handlebars are too high – once the stem arrives Chef Michael is gonna chainsaw the neck thing down and lower it.
- The color is totally wrong – for proper form the bike needs to be hot pink and black. I’ve got spray paint and I’m not afraid to use it.
I’m blessed with short legs and a long torso – so I give the illusion of having my seat too low, when really, it’s just my deformed body. Go reckon that.
Now, I’m off to get new shoes and see what I can do about this running problem. Anyone ever wear the Newton shoe?

Hope it works for you. Hard to tell without seeing from the side or being there. Unless your hips were rocking in the saddle it wasn’t too high.
Pink bikes definitely ride better. I really like my Newtons…and they come in hot pink. I wear them when I’m not going on a trail or not running on show and ice.
Pink is the new black in women’s cycling but you need to take it to the shop and have it powder coated because that’s how we roll in this world.
I’m glad you got your seat fixed – a bad fit is a bad thing. Hopefully your vagina will thank you, too.
As for the newtons – I don’t have any but I know a couple of people who swear by them.
Step away from the Newtons and get back on that bike!!!
Glad to hear you got your seat fixed! I can’t help you with the newtons. I have heard of one person trying them, but sent them back. Sorry.
My friend Maureen has the Newton shoes and she LOVES them. She has always had crampy calves and tight shins and said that the Newtons really help with that. They’re pricey though!
The only thing I’ve heard about the Newtons are that they take some time to get used to…they change the way your foot strikes which may cause some soreness if you’re not used to them.
No personal experience here…I stick with my trusty Mizunos on race day!
Spray paint and chainsaws – I like it!
Interested to hear how you go with the Newtons – something different might help with the achilles.
Glad to hear about the seat. Sounds like you have it all sorted out.
Very interested in the shoes.
fig newtons?
i think you have to try the shoes for all of us. and be sure to add glitter stickers on your bike.
Looking forward to your pimped out ride pictures…
