Kindergarten through 4th grade with Kenza was hell when it came to her studies. Many, many nights both of us were in tears just trying to get through her homework. Yesterday, I had a meeting with several of Kenza’s 6th grade teachers to decide if she is ready to be dismissed from the dyslexia program at school. I’m happy to report that everyone agreed she was ready. It’s been a long road, but Kenza will enter 7th grade without any modifications to her curriculum. Hooray!
On a side note I asked the teachers how her behavior was in class. Compliments like “excellent student” “hard working” “polite” and “well behaved” were thrown around unanimously. This made me very proud, but I kept wondering if maybe they were sending a different, sassier student home from school. One that could spend hours laying upside down on the sofa watching TV while eating cereal from the box.
Congratulations…you have done and will continue to do a great job parenting K. Be proud!
Is there something wrong with eating cereal right out of the box???
Congrats and Hooray for Kenza(and her mom)!.
Be proud and i think that you makes the problems bigger then it is ;-)!.
You now the answers and give the space to grow up and of course you tender for Kenza, and everything is good..
Nice weekend.
Rinus.
Nice. BTW “One that could spend hours laying upside down on the sofa watching TV while eating cereal from the box”…uh…it’s been a few years, but I’m pretty sure there’s a name for that. “Normal.”
🙂 – Enjoy!
Suz,
I ate cereal straight from the box in front of the TV until I was 28! Ask my beloved Joe he will tell you! I love Kenza even more now. Good luck tomorrow during the wrangling kids run! Good ride today!
Aren’t they amazing creatures?!? In response to getting Kenza interested in biking – I don’t exactly recommend it, but it works…I force Hallie to do at least this one race every year and afterwards she is always glad that she did it. I did, however buy her a ridiculously nice mountain bike, and that helps her not be so frustrated with issues that go along with a low-end bike. At 13 she definitely has other interests, but I hope that she’ll eventually really get into biking and want to race someday. There’s money and scholarships in it for women and the fields are not ginormous like they are for the men.
Are you on FB???
Yay Kenza!!!!!
Yay! That is wonderful. Keep up the great work!
Woohoo Kenza!
Switch to Weetbix http://www.weetbix.com.au/ – great cereal, but horrible without milk!
that’s awesome! and the part about school is pretty cool too!
Great job, congrats and good luck with everthing
I am so FREEKIN’ behind this week!…GAH!
As you know, DramaGirl (my daughter) is 13…and, like Kenza, is a handful. Her drama consumes a fair amount of my waking hours…
That being said, I always think that she “shows” well. I guess, all things being equal, I’d rather that I be the one who sees the “bad one” and the rest of the world sees the “good one.”
BTW…I know I’m late with this, but I think you made the right call with the Facebook thing. You’ve seen my page, DramaGirl is one of my “friends” and I monitor, but I made her wait until she was 13 to register and MySpace is OUT OF THE QUESTION for now…
Yayyyyyyyy! That’s awesome!
whoo hoo! kenza must be so happy. ah, but will she let on?
i loved parent-teacher conferences when i told the parents that little ewie mcspewie was a dream and got looks from them as though i was high on crack. “our little ewie? the devil child who throws his spam and peas when he doesn’t get his way?”
WTG, Kenza!
