When Kenza was in Kindergarten, we bought her a ten-gallon aquarium and five black tetra fish. I expected them to live maybe a few months – but here it is six years later and we still have three of those black tetras. They’ve survived everything from small kids petting them to a leaking aquarium while we were on vacation, leaving them with only a small amount of water to swim in. Sideways.
Recently, this one has grown a weirdo tumor, and I totally keep expecting him to join hamster #3 in the freezer any day now, but, remarkably, this little piece of sushi keeps on swimming.
I say operate.
We had the whole fish thing too. Much more tragic in our house. It actually went really well for awhile and it was fun to watch the fish….then all the fish dropped off one by one shortly after we cleaned the tank. Worst job ever by the way. Finally had to put the kaboosh on it since it felt like an immediate death sentence for any fish we brought home. I think it was our water – even though we have filtration out the ass a fish can’t live in it???
Wait…you have a hamster in your freezer? Are you saving it for a special occasion?
agree with Flatman – how do you prepare hamster? Is that a delicacy in Texas?
I am McLovin Rowdy…!
I have a few of those guys myself. I had a tank as a child and bought another one for my son when he was born. I love having fish.
…I hate taking care of them, but I love having fish.
You water-boarded your tetras? That’s evil Susan!
Rowdy’s right eye is obscured by rowdy fur. Not sure why that bothers me.
I am curious about the frozen hamster as well. I have a rare rodent in my classroom that is 5 years old now! He has outlived his brother by two years and survived a fire and numerous weekends of starvation as well as countless acts of torture from my preschoolers. Makes you believe in fate…
I still have my frozen hampster from when I was a child I now have two grand children.
