But 5.3 at a decent pace of 9.56 minutes per mile. I was surprised at my pace because it’s been a while since I’ve run because I’ve been obsessively working in the garden. I guess yard work is good for maintaining endurance. You know what else it’s good for? Weight loss.
I’ve been trying so hard to get under 130 pounds for years. Years, I say. No luck. In December I even topped over 140. Honestly, kind of way over 140. Shut it. I’ve run upteen marathons, have been lifting weights and watching what I eat. Yet nothing. Nothing has worked. Not a thing. I’m a freak.Ā But give me a shovel and a sledge hammer and set me loose in the garden for 12 hours a day and I end up at 128. Who knew it would take 3 weeks of digging and rock breaking? I’m exhausted but I’m so stoked that I’m volunteering myself for slave landscaping labor so I don’t gain it back. Because the second I even think about training for a marathon I’ll gain ten pounds. I’m sick like that.
Oh well, the running workouts have resumed. I have a trail run scheduled for Thursday afternoon and an 11-12 mile run scheduled for Saturday morning. Go me, I’m just determined to gain that weight back. But maybe I’ll just start on the vineyard AND run at the same time. Just maybe that would work. And some leg torture. I kind of miss the videos.
I am so tired right now, I have no desire to even get out of my office chair to brush my teeth and go to bed.
Who knew!!??? And my yard needs tons of work. Skinnyville here I come!
Trail running will keep it off. Stick with that. Leg torture – ugh. I think the problem with lifting is that it hurts and makes you sweat and gives you nice muscles but I don’t think it burns that many calories. Rock flinging is apparently the way to go.
lifting, rock-flinging…same diff! builds muskels, which burn more fat. so THEY say. But now here you are, LIVING PROOF.
I have the same relationship with 160. It’s insane.
128!!! Go buy the bikini RIGHT NOW!
jeanne, i already did. And as soon as my ass hits 125 I’m posting a picture for all the world to see me and my pasty white belly. Maybe.
Dammit, someone hand me a sledgehammer right now. I need to break some rocks. (And that’s fantastic news…you’ll have to find more manual labor once the landscaping and hardscaping are done.)
Nice job. I hate weight plateaus.
landscape is the new bootcamp. ok, I’m off to move some rocks.
Wanna help my pathetic yard? JK.
BTW, how do we get a password again? Thanks Susan. And here’s a request for pictures of your new landscape. š
Duh Laura, see below post! haha.
way to go. I have 6 acres you can come and thatch the grass, push mow, whatever.
Addicted to the trail running yet? It is the only way to go when you get the chance.
congrats on the odd way to lose lbs.
I’m kinda awaiting a Patio Susan masthead sometime.
I kind of miss your videos too — they always gave me at least one “fun” new exercise to mix into my routine.
21cm — lifting *can* burn a lot of calories. it’s just a matter of how you do it. I suspect the leg torture/ab torture workouts do a pretty good job — but not like 12 hours of nearly-continuous exercise!
Poor Susan ;-), and take a rest!.
You can drink no wine and drink only water ore tea whit no sugar.
I dont no Susan, i am about 168 pound and tell my i to Heavy !.
I have no fat and feel good.
Thats importend, what you feel and don’t look to the balance!.
You go’s good and by happy.
Rinus.
Susan congratulations!! gosh i wish i was in your shoe right now. You did it I know how hard you’ve been working at this. I’ve been battling my 20lbs now for a year an nothing seems to be budging. Have fun with it and don’t let it slip away.
Did my comment get sent to internet oblivion again?
Good grief. Your blog hates my blog address too. š
My original comment:
Just a test comment here, Susan.
But let me say while I’m here, that distance running made me gain weight, and I found as soon as I started training for the 5K’s again, the weight is dropping down. Maybe my liver got too full of glycogen.
Not sure what I’m more jealous — the 128 or your Zone 5 climate that you can grow pretty things in.
Being from a metric country, I’m not sure what 128 is, but it sounds good. Well done Susan! I think it’s the 12 hours a day of low heart-rate manual activity that did it – a bit more than Cindy’s sessions. Poor Cindy! Do that AND run and you’ll be 119 before you know it.
By the way, I’ll quote you on this one: “as soon as my ass hits 125 Iām posting a picture for all the world to see me and my pasty white belly”.
Now that’s what I call inspiring! Congrats on your weight loss. I’m going to set up a garden.
yeah, ME too. i’d give ANYTHING to be 128 right now. i was 2 years ago. and now (after riding my damn bike across the country all summer), i can’t even get under 140. 140!! UGH! so gardening, you say? i have no yard, but i’ll try to come up with an acceptable substitute…
