Internet people, I was at Target the other day and it was 106 degrees outside and I saw a car in the parking lot with a border collie in it – granted the window was cracked, but still the dog was panting like a fool! How can people be so stupid? Honestly? Stupid! I left a not so nice note on the windshield and brought attention to the security guard on duty who paged the shopper.
With that in mind and with my new running buddy ready to go, I thought I’d post this link to an interview I did last year about running with dogs with the Good Dog Podcaster, Joanne Green.
I totally understand what you mean. While we waited at an appt. someone had there dog in a locked car in the heat here an someone called it in, before I saw the dog, and the police took the dog from them and gave them a ticket. The dog was nearly unconscious. IN turn these people ned to sit in their car with the windows up to see how their pet eas feeling and I bet they wouldn’t do it again.
Sad to say a woman around here was arrested last month because a shopper in the parking lot saw two kids under the age of 4 in a car at Walmart. Good person called the police. She stayed by the car (it was locked) until the police got there and said it had been about 20 minutes since she got to the car and the police found the woman in the store. The picture of her in the paper showed a 30ish woman with a Ralph Lauren polo on, etc. WTF?????? DON’T LEAVE ANYONE IN A CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What Rae said. How long does anyone sit in the car with the window cracked? Why can they not apply what they know about how hot it gets to what it feels like to the dog with the fur coat? Mind boggling.
((shaking head in sad disbelief)) I can’t believe that with all the press, remindings, threats of arrest and citation that come people continue to be idiots and leave living beings (animals, children, whatever) locked in cars in the friggin’ summer heat. GAH!
You sound so sensible Susan! I like that you prefer dogs running on the leash. Nice plug for Sumy designs 😉
people ARE idiots. good for you!
WOW!! We’ve had children & pets die like that in the Bay Area as well, & it’s normally not as hot here.
Yes, you did the right thing. 8)
If I ever see a child locked in a car I’m calling the cops. If the kids is also unresponsive, I’m smashing the window to help. Ask questions latter, but no Jury would convict me if the child is in danger.
