I interrupt your regularly scheduled blog with a little maniacal organization and a massive purge unlike any other in Runner Susan history. This is what travel does to me, I can’t help it – a little late to call it spring cleaning – perhaps mental breakdown would be more accurate – but late is better than never, I reckon.

I’d post the before pictures but some might say they look the same as the after – I assure you there is a difference, maybe not in neatness but in quantity. It’s called minimalizing for Napa.

And yes, I own TWO shiny red bags – it’s my birthright as a woman. Bite me.

Coming soon the new and improved running closet and the ever-so-thankless office reorganization.

One place I have yet to figure out how to maintain organization is my desk. It’s a black hole for everything I don’t know what to do with. I spent the last 4 days trying to figure it out. I don’t think I made much progress, other than it “appears” to be organized. I guess I really need to organize my brain first. Anyone want to take bets on how long it stays this way?

We’ve had one closet that I just haven’t had time to organize since we moved in. But, finally, inspired from the marathon, I got to it. It’s taken 2 days and I wish I had a before picture to show you. The guest bedroom closet is *my* closet. The only space in the house that is totally *mine* and I don’t have to share it with anyone. Except the vacuum, which is excluded from the picture for your viewing pleasure.

Suncreen, chapstick, hats, sunglasses, blinking lights, earbuds, wintery hats, socks and gloves and shoes all in their proper places. So pretty. Please excuse the wrinkles, most of the clothes have been boxed up for several months.

Organization is this year’s resolution, and I’ve been good – very good. My closet is still a stellar example of color coordinated neatness, and with my latest retail therapy relapse, it’s also full of many things blue. Along with the blue and new shoes, I also purchased a strapping new handbag. A handbag so glorious it shames all others.

This is where the organization comes in: moving crap from old handbag to new handbag. Unfortunately, I’ve played this game for about nine bags now, leaving behind the useless crap and moving only the really important crap like lip gloss and tweezers.

So today, instead of running, I spent much of my day de-crapping my handbags. And it wasn’t pretty; in fact it was downright embarrassing. I’m surprised I didn’t find any dead rodents amongst the forgotten pens and trillion receipts.

However, on the bright side, I also found many useful things: 2 tubes of toothpaste, 13 tampons, a laptop and $47.00. You just can’t have too many extra tampons. And tucked into the side pocket of one handbag was an unfamiliar note labeled “private” on the outside. The kind of private which meant I had to open it immediately.

I’m not quite sure how I should feel about this. It really is adorable, but don’t crushes start around age 30?

I know exactly what you are thinking: “Where’s the blue?” Me too. I can’t believe I don’t own a single blue shirt.

I’ve spent hours organizing. I’ve donated 12 garbage bags of clothing that doesn’t fit me to the local charity. It felt good to let those things go. Now I regret not taking a before picture.

I will do my best to keep it this way. This is my new year’s resolution to the man who hasn’t said a word about the 40 lemons or gallon of grade B maple syrup sitting in our refrigerator.
